The ring hiking route for Monte Matanna departing from our hotel in Casoli takes about 5 hours.
Hiking ring with peak in tranquil and relaxing Apuana territories. The starting point for hiking is the small hamlet of Casoli, just a few hundred meters from our hotel. Follow signs for the resort of Tre Scolli. The road here is very narrow and after a few bends we find a bar (private road). To the right of this part is the signpost 106 (about 550 m. - a little slargo where to park). The trail rises steeply until you cross the private road again, following it for a short stretch, then returning to the woods. In about 35 min. You reach the Foce di San Rocchino (802 m.), Where there is a small chapel dedicated to the saint. We continue following the signpost 3 on the right, which leads us to the Grattaculo Foce (855 m.) On the sloping ground, overtaking a farm in a remarkable position. Here we meet the 121 we are going to go back. Continue on the 3rd exit from the woods and cross the meadows of the southern slope of Matanna. This stretch of trail is really pleasant and relaxing and gives beautiful glimpses on the Camaiore basin on Mount Piglione and Prana. In view of the Ball Mouth, the track begins to rise more firmly, but always without difficulty. Once you reach the panoramic Ponte Moto (1091 m.) You leave the marked trail following the trails that run through the grassy ridge in the direction of Matanna, which is already seen the peak cross. Continuing to track the tracks we find some sporadic blue discolored sign, but the orientation is obvious. You reach the summit at Matanna (1318 m.) Which confirms an exceptional panoramic balcony !! Beautiful view of Proclon and Baby Ridge, vertical north wall of the Ninth, and in the background the Panie. From the cross continue to follow the traces that run along the short section of crest then descend towards the Callare del Matanna (1138 m). Here we cross the signpost 5 leading to the Rifugio Forte dei Marmi (852 m); If you have time it is possible from Callare to continue traces to the summit of the Ninth. When we reach the refuge, we turn 121 into a fathopian path that winds through the woods at the base of Matanna's wall. When you reach the Scratchy Mouth, following the itinerary we went back to Trescolli.
The ring path takes about 5h and is very pleasant and unmanageable.
